A Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) is for the person who has been deemed ineligible to enter Canada to travel or remain because of Security , Criminality, medical reasons or they do not satisfy the standard of Immigration Refugee Protection Act or Regulation(IRPA or IRPR).
Program eligibility:
To be eligible for a temporary resident permit, your reasons to enter or stay in Canada must outweigh the health or safety risks to Canadian society, as determined by an immigration or a border services officer. Even if the reason you’re inadmissible seems minor, you must demonstrate that your visit is justified. There is no guarantee that you’ll be issued a temporary resident permit.

How long you can stay in Canada with TRP?
A temporary resident permit is typically granted for the duration of your visit to Canada. As an example, 1 week to attend a wedding or a business conference. You must immediately leave Canada by the expiry date mentioned on your permit.

In case you want to extend your stay, you must get another permit approved before your current one expires.
Other things you must know regarding TRP:
- TRPs can be cancelled by an officer at any time.
- The validity of a TRP permit ends once you leave Canada, unless you have explicitly been granted the permission to leave and re-enter.
- You have to pay a fee (CAD$200) to cover the cost of your Temporary Resident Permit application processing.
The fee is non-refundable in case the application gets rejected.
